Story-telling

Most designers create their collection thinking of a story they want to tell. This is a way of making more clear to the audience what is their message.

Prada’s landmark is to combine opposites in unconventional ways. Humor and irony is always part of the proposal. Men love women and cars.  Miuccia through the collection is saying, women are objects of desire, like cars, but this cars are shown like cartoons, putting the masculine aspect in a childish position… and women in power. She finds a way of showing how a theme so not feminine as cars, can be cool and sexy for women too. She brings to fashion the unexpected.

Inspiration & References

The Pin-ups girls were photographs of celebrities who were considered sex symbols, like Betty Grable, whose posters were found in the lockers of soldiers during World War II. Other pin-ups were artwork, often depicting idealized versions of women that combine sexiness and sweetness.prada analysis-inspiration pin ups

Trompe l’oeil is an art technique involving realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions. Elsa Schiapparelli used this effect in garments in the 1930’s.

Prada’s image of “anti-status” or “reverse snobbery.” is shown in heavy weight jewelry (looking fake) worn with ease, even for the day. It reminds our childhood, when we took grandma’s jewelry and mixed and matched. Also, the use of the rose, as a stereotype of sweetness.

 Main Outfits

These are the 4 main outfits that can sum-up the collection. All the other outfits are inspired by them. The designer plays with these silhouettes, colors, materials, treatments and construction to develop the full collection. This is the way designers reinforce the proposal for the season.

Accessories

This season accessories will be a “must have”. Miuccia picked very classic shapes of bags and shoes and transformed them into the coolest pieces. They look completely updated, they are fun but at the same time, elegant. The making is flawless.
